Astaxanthin is generally safe and well-tolerated, but there are important exceptions:

Common side effects: If taken in high doses, it can cause changes in stool color (tending towards red) and increased bowel activity.

Subjects at risk: It is contraindicated during pregnancy, breastfeeding, for those suffering from autoimmune diseases, or for those taking immunosuppressant drugs.

Absorption: Since it is a fat-soluble substance (it dissolves in fats), it should always be recommended to take it during main meals.
